ELA Catalyst – Mrs. L. Cameron May, 2019
Parents and Guardians of Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) students – We would like to thank you for reading and doing activities with your child(ren) daily. Children who read daily are proven to have success in all subject areas and their chances of succeeding to graduate increase. Reading with your children daily is imperative to their success.
Model Schools Literacy Project (MSLP) – This is our first year with MSLP or otherwise called the Martin Family Initiative (MFI). Some of the benefits of this 4 year project is that it includes: testing students, which provides information to teachers that will drive their instruction and; facilitating ‘Sharing Circles’, which brings together by virtual communication same grade teachers from different communities which provides mentoring to teachers. The assessing of students and the mentoring of teachers is purposeful in providing the best pedagogy for CBMES students. MSLP has a goal to ensure that the students of CBMES are reading and writing at grade level by the end of grade 3.
Clubs: Our next Family Literacy Night scheduled for June 18, 2019 will showcase the talents students are enjoying each week on their Club day.
Scholastic Book Club – Watch for the Scholastic Book Club flyers! Orders are always sent in at the end of each month!
What is Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)?
LLI is a reading intervention we use at CBMES to get children reading at grade level.
It is designed to teach reading strategies to children with the intent that students will begin to love reading.
As students become more engaged they will improve in fluency, as well as in comprehension.
Students who are asked to be in this intervention and who are the best candidates need to have 3 basic requirements: be good attenders, be easy learners, and have supports at home.
LLI has proven to make a significant difference in raising students reading levels,
